Be Prepared for First Day of School on Aug. 18: Schedules, Attendance

We are thrilled to kick off an amazing year with all of you. As we get settled into our routines, we want to share an important update regarding how schedule adjustments will be handled this semester.

Important Policy Regarding Schedule Changes

To ensure that schedule adjustments are processed as efficiently and fairly as possible:

  • No Schedule Changes via Email: Counselors will not be changing schedules through email requests.
  • Use the Official Form: All requests must be submitted through this online Schedule Change Request Form>.
  • Students must follow their current schedule in Frontline until they receive email notification that a change has been made (or that the change could not be made).
  • If a student has NO SCHEDULE, the student should report to the library.
  • If a student has a hole in their schedule (missing period), the student should follow their schedule and report to the library during the period that is missing.
Form Availability & Timeline
  • Open Date/Time: Tuesday, August 18 at 8:00 a.m.
  • Close Date/Time: Sunday, August 23 at 5:00 p.m.
Counselor Availability & Response Times

During this busy opening window, our counseling team is fully dedicated to reviewing and resolving schedule adjustments as quickly as possible:

  • No One-on-One Meetings: Counselors will not be available for walk-in or one-on-one meetings regarding schedules during this initial period.
  • Email Delays: Expect a delay in general email responses so that our team can focus on processing all submitted schedule change requests by September 1.

Thank you for your patience, cooperation, and understanding as we work to get every student settled into their correct classes. We wish everyone a fantastic start to the school year!

Attendance & Student Success

Dear Austin High Families,

Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! We are thrilled to have our Maroons back on campus tomorrow Tuesday August 18, 2026!. Every student's presence strengthens our community, and we believe that learning happens best when students are engaged in the classroom with their peers and teachers.

Student attendance is essential not only for academic achievement and personal growth but also for our school's sustainability. It is important to note that district funding is directly tied to student attendance, which supports the programs and resources that help our students thrive. Now more than ever, we need your support to ensure that your student attends all their classes.

Understanding Attendance Requirements for Course Credit

To ensure students receive academic credit for their courses, the state of Texas has two requirements that must be met each semester:

  1. Academic Performance: The student must achieve a semester average of 70 or higher.
  2. Attendance: The student must be physically present in class for at least 90% of the instructional days.

Falling below the 90% attendance threshold, which typically equates to more than three to four unexcused (UNX) absences in a semester-long class, will result in the loss of credit for that course, regardless of the student's grade.

Compliance & Support

The school is legally required to involve truancy court services if a student reaches 10 or more unexcused class period absences. Our priority is to avoid this through proactive partnership with our families. Please ensure your student attends all classes moving forward.

We are here to support you! Please reach out to us early if challenges arise so we can work together on a plan for your student's success. If you have questions or concerns, reach out to your student’s Counselor, Assistant Principal or call Austin High School 512-414-2505 and request Maria Quick, guidance secretary.
